The objective of the Southwest Mobile Health Clinic is to provide basic health care service to Native Americans in the remote area of the Navajo nation reservation who have difficulty accessing health care service. The grant specifically outfits the Mobile clinic with an ultra sound and x-ray machine and appropriate equipment in the McKinley county, New Mexico area and the Navajo Native American reservation.
In addition, basic health care screenings: blood work, chronic disease, medication management, and a key component of disease prevention will be implemented with particular attention to women's health.
The initial reach of the program will be to an estimated 3,600 individuals-- particularly expected are elderly, young children and veterans. It is the expectation that the number of visits and people served will be up to 10,000 per year-- averaging 100 - 200 visits per week. The mobile unit will move between six chapter houses of the Navajo reservation ranging 50-70 miles from the hospital.
This is a project with a budget of ~$78,000. Partner clubs from India, the united States and Canada were supported by The Rotary Foundation
